端午节在每年的阴历五月初五，又称端阳节、重五节。每逢端午节那天，都有很多的风俗：吃粽子、赛龙舟、插艾叶等等，而这一天也是我们全民族团圆的节日。每到那天奶奶总会买了好多的粽叶，用清水泡着，洗干净码好，粽子的馅一般是糯米，配上绿豆、红枣等，用粽叶裹紧煮熟。到了晚上，一家人团聚在一起，吃着清香的粽子，那是一种多么温暖的亲情气息。

相传端午节的主要活动是为了纪念伟大的爱国诗人屈原。这其中包含着一个动人的故事。据说，很久以前，爱国大诗人屈原为了坚持他的爱国主张却被别人陷害，遭到流放，痛心疾首的他忧心如焚，在极度的失望和痛苦中怀抱石头自尽于又急又宽的汨罗江中。闻讯而来的百姓，怕江里的鱼虾把他的尸体吃掉，便用苇叶包了许多味道鲜美的粽子扔进江里，这样鱼就不会吃屈原的尸体了。龙舟竞渡是人们为了竞相捞救爱国诗人屈原而延续下来的。正好这天是阴历五月初五，善良的人们为了纪念屈原，把这天定为端午节，以示悼念。
